The credit transfer process boils down to what prior courses taken at another institution will count toward your eventual degree. Often, institutions will offer to accept prior course work as electives. This may benefit students in some cases. But, often, this results in students having more electives than they need to graduate. In a sense, if this happens, you have wasted credits. The important thing to determine is how many course credits will count toward the completion of your degree requirements. Each course is evaluated separately. If the course fits the expectations of the core requirements of your major, that is the best. TIP: validate how each course will count toward your degree by checking the degree requirements before you transfer. It is a simple task, but one that often is skipped until the Registrar begins determining graduation requirements. And, often surprises arise for the need to take one or more courses to satisfy degree requirements.
