Re: finding schools
The College-Level Examination Program or CLEP provides students of any age with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. There are 2,900 colleges that grant credit and/or advanced standing for CLEP exams. For more information go to http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html.

CAEL is the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning, a non-profit, international organization with nearly 30 years of experience. The have a section about PLA (Prior learning Assessment) with several books on this topic. Check out CAEL on the web at www.cael.org.

Re: finding schools
Every school has a different policies on prior work experience counting toward a degree/major.  Many online programs offer some level of prior credit for work experience.  But, I am finding it hard to find selective schools even consider this as an option.
