The goal of the College Transition Program is to help Maine adults
successfully transition to college and earn a degree. College Transition in
adult education works by: providing classes in subjects such as study skills,
college writing, algebra, biology and chemistry; helping with completion of
applications and financial aid forms; and providing college counseling and
career planning. Services are available at low or no cost to the individual.
The Maine College Transition Program is one of the
strategies advocated by the Compact for Higher Education to dramatically
increase the education of Maine
workers. The Maine College Transition Program is based on the experiences of
seven local adult education programs financed by the Nellie Mae Education
Foundation for the past five years, and six pilot sites supported by state
government.
